While most expectant mothers are reading books about What to Expect… etc., I was combing the celeb mags trying to find out the important mommy things like: how did Jessica Alba look so good 8 weeks after giving birth?  How does Brooke Burke have a six pack after four children?  Well, trainers and personal chefs I’m sure have something to do with it, but they also both raved about girdles.

Let me tell you: not all girdles are created equal.  I read that you were supposed to wear one all day and all night for 40 days (like Jesus suffering in the desert I suppose.)  Before I found the Belly Bandit, I had an imposter and after a day or two it started viciously poking me with the velcro closure.  OUCH!  I couldn’t take it.  The first one I got was the Tauts brand.  For some reason the side with the velcro is much longer than the side to which you attach it.  That uneven construction left a large amount of the velcro hanging off and, like I said, viciously poked me.  Now I am definitely a “no pain no gain” type of girl but this was getting ridiculous.

By some miracle Ellen Degeneres did a segment on pregnancy beauty products and that is where I found the most comfortable girdle out there (total oxymoron.)  The Belly Bandit.

You can see in the photo it’s even all the way around so the velcro doesn’t poke you!  This wrap sucks you in, helps you get around more comfortably after labor, trims inches off your waist, helps introduce your abs to each other again, and shrinks up the totally weird skin that is left after giving birth.  I loved it as much as you can love anything you have to wear all day and all night for 6-8 weeks.  It is a MUST HAVE.  Get two so you can wear the second while the first is getting a hand wash and air-dry.  Seriously.  It is the quickest and easiest way to begin to resemble your former self.

P.S. The material is a bit on the chunky side so it does sometimes show through clothing.  I don’t know about you but I wasn’t wearing anything skin tight after giving birth anyway!  If you want to and can, you probably don’t need a girdle.  :)

The real product that Brooke Burke used is actually called Tauts. They are available from a website which is babooshbaby.com.

I think Belly Bandit is a copy product – but the Tauts are the original ones. I actually got to try both when I was pregnant and I liked theTauts – for some reason the design just felt better on me than the Belly Bandit which felt uncomfortable under clothes.

My personal tip is go for the original Brooke Burke product. But that’s just me – you be the judge!!

I used the Tauts… that’s the one I called the imposter. The velcro was so uncomfortable on it that it actually gave me a scab where it kept repeatedly poking me. I’m glad you liked it but I MUCH preferred the belly bandit. That’s why it’s my personal fave. :)

It sounds like minx works for tauts… I say that because I have the exact opposite experience . I tried tauts before I wore the Belly bandit and it was extremely itchy and irritated my skin! I wore the thing for 2 days and couldn’t bare to keep it on. My sister went out and got me the belly bandit and I was much more pleased, the belly bandit and tauts shouldn’t even be put in the same catagory as far as comfort goes!! I wore the bamboo one which was more expensive but worth them money. I wore it night and day like it said in the directions. I have gone down and now need another belly bandit!

I wish you had written about this a few weeks ago. I had a regular binder from the hospital after all 3 kids and my hysto and its insane with the velcro and the lack of stretch. I can finally get around and moving like a normal human rather than half quasi-modoish.
